I saw this picture and I thought I would share it with you all.  I had to laugh when I read it because it does get across the message quite well!!

Well hello, hello & hello!!

My my my, it has been a while hasn’t it?

So, let’s give you a bit of an update on where I am with my life.

Firstly, I’ve now started my third and final year at university.  I’m trying to sort out my final year project at the moment, wow it’s a lot of work when I start it, but for now I’m just trying to work out the project and what I want to do. Hopefully, by this time tomorrow I shall know what I’m doing.

Before I came back to uni, I was working hard over the summer at Reed Social Care as a recruitment consultant.  I really enjoyed the work and worked with some fantastic people.  Unfortunately they have now given me a nickname which shall stay with me for a while. I am now known as David Brent. You know, Ricky Gervais’ character from the office. It’s my goatee and bad sense of humour aparently!!  Ah well, I think I now know that I want to go into recruitment once I graduate.  Maybe not in Social Care, probably more into IT/Telecoms.

What else can I update you on? Hmmmm?

Ah yes, most of you may know by now that I am single.  To be honest, it’s definately something that can only be used to my advantage in my final year at uni. It means that I have extra time to spend on my work.  I think I’m planning on staying that way for a while - definately until I graduate.  Still doesn’t mean that I’m open to offers and won’t stop anybody from trying to sway me :P

What else? Ah - a big part of student union stuff at the mo is Student Direct.  Now, most people will know that I no longer write for the paper after the election of the new Communications Officer and I still stand by that.  This also means that I will not contribute in any way, whether that be giving a quote for an article or writing a full column.  Hey, what can I say….I’m a man that stands by his word!

I think that’s about it for now, hopefully I won’t be so long in updating this site, sorry about that.

Israelis summon rain (and not through prayer)

As reported in todays Manchester Evening News, Israeli scientist plan to summon rain out of a cloudless sky by painting the ground black. Scientists hope that the technique, to be tested later this year in the Negev desert, will banish drought. Computer simulations have shown that heated air rising from the black panels (made of thermal material) will cause vapour to condense into clouds and fall as rain. Researchers believe that manipulating air currents in this way can beat droughts.

Reading this, not a week after the world was condeming Israel as the cause of most problems makes a nice change.

Fire in the disco….fire in the gates of hell

Yes, the topic of discussion today is fire and what happens when an HGV drives into the side of a plastics factory. The resulting explosion causes a fire that produces lots of acrid, thick black smoke. Luckily when this happened opposite the estate that I live on, I wasn’t there to witness it.

Unluckily though, it did mean that I wasn’t able to get back home from work as the police had corderned off all of the surrounding area as unstable gas canisters were exploding constantly in the fire.

Luckily, I was at work until 10:30pm (although I had started at 7:30am) so this meant that by the time I went home I could drive home (well, after talking a police officer into letting me through the cordon).

Damn, being at work means that I get to miss all the fun. I’ll resign to the fact that earning the money is better than witnessing poisonous smoke :P

I recently received an e-mail to let me know that three of my photos have been selected as finalist entries to appear in a new online guide for Manchester.  The photos are these:

I was really chuffed to get the e-mail and, although I don’t win anything if they get selected to appear, it’s still really cool to have photos published :D
