I promised I’d write a blog about Israel’s response to the Haiti earthquake crisis due to the lack of reporting happening in the British media (surprise surprise).

The IDF search and rescue delegation landed in Haiti on January 15th and the Medical and Rescue Team immediately set up a field hospital in Port-Au-Prince and began to treat patients there. In addition, the forces started locating and rescuing survivors trapped in ruined buildings, including many who were injured during the collapse of the UN headquarters.

The IDF field hospital is currently the most advanced medical facility in the area, with intensive care units, operating rooms and maternity/delivery rooms, as well as over 40 doctors and specialists. The field hospital has been set up on a football pitch:

Link to Google Maps – here

So, what are the stats? Well, as of writing this post it has been reported that the IDF Field Hospital has so far treated 383 people including dozens of children. 140 life saving operations were executed and seven babies were delivered. As of now, approximately 60 patients are being treated in different departments of the hospital. Last night, two children who were trapped under the ruins of a building for seven days and then rescued by an American team were brought to the IDF hospital for treatment.

So, this is just a taster of how the Israelis have responded to the crisis in Haiti. Please remember this when people start telling you that Israel is an evil country and abuses human rights.

You can find out more information from Twitter, YouTube and the IDF Blog.

I’ll leave you with a video produced by Neil Lazarus of Awesomeseminars.com

Broken Britain. Or that’s what we are living in if you listen to the many politicians that band this phrase about when talking about British society.

So what is wrong with British society? Well, I could list issues such as rising knife crime, younger pregnancies, increasing amounts of intrusions into civil liberties and ludicrous financial mis-management by the government.

Today in the news I read the story of Samantha Orobator, who could potentially face death by firing squad in Laos if found guilty of trying to smuggle heroin out of the country. So, now charities and her family are demanding that the British Government does something about it and tries to get her released and brought back to Britain. I’m sorry, what? Hard earned tax payers money is going to be spent on sending over the best lawyers to a foreign country to try to secure the release of a women who knew what she was getting into before carrying out the (alleged) crime.

Answer me this, would we not expect a foreigner to be suitably punished by the laws of this land should they commit a crime here? Or would we be ok with them being sent back to their country to go about their life with all the freedom they can wish for.

This and other events over the last six months have got me thinking – how can we Fix Broken Britain? Has it got the point of no return? Can anything be done to restore this country to it’s correct standing in the world?

I’d like to throw my answer into the hat for consideration by the powers that be.

We should make a return to the Victorian era for manners, discipline in our schools and general etiquette within society.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to be blogging about how a return to some Victorian principles can help fix broken Britain.

They are obviously anti-capitalist, anti-war, left wing driven campaigns. I am told that there is a sticker with Tony Blair doing a Nazi sulute, so I will get a picture of that hopefully and post it here. For now, enjoy the two below:

“The Arab press has outdone Hitler’s propaganda,” Anti-Defamation League National director Abraham Foxman said Monday, noting that “a grotesque propaganda war which has reached a new dimension” had emerged from the war in Lebanon.

Foxman, speaking at an ADL press conference in Jerusalem, said the anti-Semitic material in the Arab press frequently depicts Israeli control over the UN, an irony noted by Foxman, who pointed to the UN support of Arab causes, particularly in the UN Human Rights Council.

Cartoon published in the Syrian A-Dustur

Over 100 incidents of anti-Semitism have been triggered by the war in Lebanon, Foxman said, and while there had been an increase in the US and Europe, the situation was not nearly as serious as in the Arab world.

“Conflict in the Middle East legitimizes anti-Semitic actions worldwide,” explained the ADL director. However, he noted that “if you over hype specific incidents, such as the attack in Seattle, the anti-Semites win because people will stop going to Jewish centers and institutions – it’s a delicate balance.”

Commenting on Germany’s potential role as part of the UN peacekeeping force, Foxman said that its participation “is still an issue.”

“The fact that one still needs to struggle with the issue is important, but at the end of the day I would like to see the Germans as peacekeepers,” Foxman said. He added that “it is important that there is an element of historical trauma. Jews and Germans will always have that shadow of history, but it’s healthy.”

This blog is about the horrific suicide [homicide] bombing in Tel Aviv (Israel) yesterday. I’ve commented on suicide bombings in the past and the grief that it causes the people injured and the families of those killed. What I plan on doing is to write a seperate post about the mechanics of a terrorist suicide bomb, just to drive home how evil these people truely are. What I wanted to point you towards first is a couple of other blogs that I have read through Jo’s site as they really put the events of yesterday into perspective. The first is a blog called On the Face written by Lisa Goldman, an Israeli freelance journalist based in Tel Aviv. She was there and has blogged about it.

Today’s explosion was so loud and so strong that we thought it was just down the street. But it turned out to be at the old central bus station, a seedy area of cheap shops and food stands about 15 minutes’ walk away. It’s a place where poor people, junkies and foreign workers live. Incredibly, the bomber hit the exact same shawarma stand that another suicide bomber had exploded himself in just three months ago. That time, no one was killed. This time the bomb was a lot bigger – and it was packed with long nails.

I then followed a link on Lisa’s blog to a ’sober and intelligent take on today’s bombing’. It’s a blog by an Iranian called Arash Abadpour who is currently working on his doctorate at the University of Manitoba in Canada.

If those black sheets with the prophet’s name were not hanging behind him, I would be thinking he is reading an essay about the “beauty of the spring”. The sixteen-year-old boy kills eight people at the scene and wounds dozens more, some of which are reported to be in serious condition.

[...]

I was thinking will the Islamic world give an appology for the prophet’s name used in a mission to kill people?

Both these blogs are very good and the photos are harrowing, but I would advise reading both of them.
